PROJECT MONARCH TROOP 3352

FCC TROOP 3352 MISSION BUTTERFLY

Our troops mission is to help save the Monarch butterfly by sustaining and restoring the butterflies natural habitat.

The Monarch butterfly is in danger due to the lack of Milkweed plants, which is a source of food and the natural reproduction habitat.

The Milkweed plant produces a poison that is the protection of caterpillars transforming into butterflies.

We hope you following information helpful and informative

Monarch Butterfly Notes for Santa Fe Monarch Conservation

By Fallon Woodhall

Monarch butterflies communicate by coloration or by opening and closing their wings. By doing that they seem to say “don’t land on me”.
They can see ultraviolet light.

How to tell the difference between a Monarch, a Queen, and a Viceroy Butterfly

A Viceroy, Queen, and Monarch butterflies are always mixed up and sometimes are mistaken for one another.

QUEEN BUTTERFLY

A queen butterfly is darker than a Monarch butterfly. A queen butterfly is darker and has more spots on the wings when the wings are closed and there are no veins that are visible on the wings when they are open.

Viceroy Butterfly

VICEROY2.png

Viceroy butterflies’ colors are lighter compared to a monarch butterfly and their veins are different. Instead of oranges like the Monarch, the Viceroy has light oranges and a little bit of yellow. The veins are thicker than the Monarch’s when their wings are closed. The caterpillar for Viceroy is green.

THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY

The butterfly we all have been waiting for. The Monarch butterfly is different than the other two  butterflies because of the colors of the wings, like I mentioned in the other two paragraphs, and the caterpillar is different as well. The Monarch butterfly is mostly orange and when the wings are closed, faded orange. The caterpillar is yellow, white, and black. It looks like it has two heads.
